The Gö Gravel weekend informal social ride excellently designed by Chris took us to the middle of Germany.
Close to Göttingen is where three German states meet – Lower Saxony, Thuringia, and Hesse, and here there are a cluster of places which lay claim to being the centre of the country.
Backed by a substantial lobby is Niederdorla in Thuringia where the intersection of the lines of latitude and longitude fall. Other methods of measuring suggest Besse, in Hesse (based on a north, south, west, and east axis), and mathematically there are Flinsberg, Silberhausen, Landstreit and Krebeck.
Our return point of the ride was Krebeck the geodetic centre of Germany (science of measurement) to see the Gedenkstein Mittelpunkt Deutschlands.
In addition, the ride featured the Bratental going up where we go down on the All Along the Watchtower Tour (plus the Roringer Warte), a trail dedicated to the UN Charter of Human Rights and appropriately the Göttingen Geopark.
Josh rode a cargo bike because, well that´s Josh! (it had a strong motor)
Danke for the company: Chris, Andrea, Craig, Jonas, Josh, Konstantin, Sandra P, Sebastian, Marius, Sergiy, Lydia and Alex.
